Linda Jaivin

Writer and academic

Linda Jaivin is a visiting fellow and editorial consultant at the Australian Centre for China in the World at the Australian National University in Canberra.
The author of eleven books, her most recent novel is The Empress Lover, published in April 2014.  Also published this year is Beijing, her intimate portrait of the city and its history.

Jaivin has also published numerous essays and short stories and has written for the theatre. Her translations from Chinese include movie subtitles (including Farewell My Concubine and Wong Kar Wai's The Grandmaster).  She regularly appears on arts and current affairs programs including Q&A and the First Tuesday Book Club.

Born in Connecticut, Jaivin has been an Australian citizen for over twenty years. She lives in Sydney and considers Beijing as her second home.
